About our Classes

What are Music Together classes like?

The children have the freedom to respond according to where they stand developmentally. So do the parents/caregivers. The environment is informal, completely free from performance pressure, and you and your children will enjoy making music instead of passively receiving it from recordings. You and your children will sing along, play various instruments, dance, and listen. Children learn that music is valuable when they observe their parents actively making music themselves. Mixed age classes

Child development researchers recommend mixed-age groupings because it fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating the older ones, older children learn by leading the younger ones, and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to classes together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. The class provides for a variety of adult-child activities that are fun and offer new ways to play musically at home. Research shows that preschool age children who are slow to warm up to social settings are reassured by the presence of babies and young toddlers in class - the environment is less threatening to them than a setting where all children are their age or older.

Babies Class

This class has been adapted especially for pre-crawling babies! We will sing, dance and chant in a relaxed environment where parents, caregivers and babies strengthen their emotional bond through music. We at Music Together believe that all babies are born musical. This class will give you tips on how to respond to their musical expressions, how to engage, soothe and energize your baby through singing, even if you think you can't sing! You will find out how music can help with difficult transitions. Moreover, by the end of the 8 week session, you will have built an impressive repertoire of songs to sing for and with your baby!

4 and 5 Year Olds Class

This class is designed for children who have some of Music Together experience.  Having experienced three collections (e.g. Bongos, Fiddle, Maracas) is recommended.  If your child has already done the current collection, great! This class will take songs to the next level and build on your child’s early musical learning to strengthen and expand their music competence.

This is not a drop-off class.  The participation of a cherished adult is still important to your child’s musical development.

Every activity will be planned with the experienced four and five-year-old in mind. This class is taught by Amy Wyman, a newly trained Music Together teacher who has 10 years of experience working with children in this age group all over the world - read Amy's bio on the Teachers page of our website! The former director of Music Together of Belmont and the beloved and expert teacher of 4 and 5 year old class, Bee Fortin, will be providing guidance and mentoring to Amy on this exciting and new journey.
